I actually went down the route of making chapter notes as I went, but you're right: it seriously interrupted my reading and I ended up with 'summaries' that were long enough to be a book in themselves!

So I'm forcing myself to wait until the end of each chapter and then just write a few lines around the overall themes mentioned
